Deck The Halls & Your Fence!

As we approach the holiday season, you’re probably already thinking about hauling the decorations out of the garage. As you adorn your home and the surrounding trees, remember to bring your fence some cheer! Since your fence surrounds your property, it is especially pleasing to the eyes of those nearby to see it dressed to the nines in festive trimmings. As such, here are just a few creative fence-decorating ideas for the upcoming season.

1. Light it Up

Beautiful, delicate outdoor light displays are par for the course during December, but unlike other homeowners on the block that illuminate just their house and yard, you can make a bold statement by outlining your entire fence with sparkly strings of lights. You can run them across its top, or create patterns or loops to showcase the fence’s design or surface.

Your visitors and neighbors will surely bask in the glow of your fence draped in glistening, weather-proof lanterns, or you can choose simple white and gold fairy lights that shine from afar. Colorful strings of lights will give your property a festive vibe, or choose unique shapes, such as snowflakes, angels, or icicles.

2. Try A Rustic Theme

You can try a sophisticated, yet rustic theme for your fence by creating traditional bows from burlap, velvet, or other materials that are resistant to damage from ongoing cold and wet weather. Add lovely strands of green garland and pinecones, berries, or holly and ivy for natural, yet seasonal touches.

And, if you have a chain-link fence, you can even create unique patterns and pictures by weaving ribbons or construction tape throughout the unit.

3. Hang Wreaths and Greenery

If you want to angle for a classy look that is old-fashioned, but never goes out of style, try greenery, large ornamental wreaths, and matching red, silver, or gold bows.

This idea is tried and true for a reason. Folks love seeing pops of color, particularly the jolly hues of red and green, dotting the dark, snowy winter landscape.

A variation on this traditional concept is to purchase oversized ornaments, similar to those seen on metro outdoor holiday trees, and hang them from the green garland and wreaths that line the fence.
